The butterfly valve can be operated automatically through an actuator or manually with a handle to open and close it. There are three standard types of actuators: normally closed (NC), normally open (NO), and air/air (A/A). The actuator converts the axial movement of a piston into a 90° rotational movement of the valve shaft, thereby driving the disc to rotate to open or close the valve. When the disc rotating around the axis within the valve body comes into contact with the butterfly valve seal, the actuator's torque increases. To close the valve, different manually operated handles can be selected to mechanically lock the valve in the open, closed, intermediate, or other positions, enabling adjustment of the flow.
